Shere - Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

The last Queen to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria. The original Shere Parish Hall in Surrey (where the Shere Museum
is now housed, was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1898.

Now in 2012, 112 years later we all celebrate Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee.

The Shere Diamond Jubilee Library is nearing completion to celebrate this wonderful event.

Beacons

The lighting of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacons
took place around the country on Monday June 4 as part of the extended bank holiday weekend celebrations.

A total of 2,012 beacons were originally hoped to light up the commonwealth to mark the Queen's 60 years on the throne,
but the idea caught the imagination and over 4,000 beacon sites were announced.

Festivities begin early at many Surrey locations and continue until the beacons are lit between 10pm and 10.30pm.
